The Black Librarian in America: Reflections, Resistance, and Reawakening to be Released in February 2022

In celebration of 50 years of encouraging, nurturing, supporting, and inspiring African American librarians, the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) is releasing The Black Librarian in America: Reflections, Resistance, and Reawakening, the next volume in The Black Librarian in America series. Published by Rowman & Littlefield, this collection of essays is written by and about African American librarians and brings attention to issues of race, diversity, leadership, recruitment, and activism within the library profession. It is also the first volume in the series edited entirely by women – Shauntee Burns-Simpson, Nichelle M. Hayes, Dr. Ana Ndumu, and Dr. Shaundra Walker.

The Black Librarian in America: Reflections, Resistance, and Reawakening is scheduled for release in February 2022. This is fitting in that February is Black History Month, a time for honoring, celebrating, and learning about the accomplishments, contributions, struggles, and triumphs of African Americans from past to present. African American librarians are a part of this history, making many achievements and facing many struggles in the field of librarianship and the communities they serve.

The Black Librarian in America: Reflections, Resistance, and Reawakening is available in hardcover, paperback, and e-book formats. Ordering information is available from Rowman & Littlefield at: https://rowman.com/ISBN/9781538152676/The-Black-Librarian-in-America-Reflections-Resistance-and-Reawakening.

In support and promotion of The Black Librarian in America: Reflections, Resistance, and Reawakening, a book tour will be launched shortly after its release. More information about the book tour and how to participate is forthcoming.
